In-School Individual Instrumental Programme (IIIP)
What is IIIP?
The IIIP (In-School Individual Instrumental Programme) is an unique enrichment programme designed for Yew Chung and Yew Wah students to learn musical instruments (e.g. Keyboard, Brass, Woodwind, Percussion, Strings and Chinese Instruments) on campus during school hours in a cost effective way.
How does the IIIP work?
The IIIP offers various time slots for students to choose, including in-school hours, lunchtime and after-school hours. IIIP lessons scheduled during in-school hours are on a weekly rotation basis. Moreover, IIIP works on a special time arrangement system organised by music tutors to minimise students from possible clash or missing classes of other subjects. IIIP lessons will not be scheduled during test weeks, examination periods, Christmas, Chinese New Year, and other public holidays.
IIIP offers instrumental lessons with various lesson lengths between 30 to 60 minutes, so students can choose lessons according to their grade levels and availability. IIIP also allows students of all music levels to participate, from beginner to diploma level, since IIIP teachers are well-trained music professionals with solid teaching experience. If students start taking IIIP music lessons at an early age, many of them may have achieved Grade 8 in the ABRSM exams or even diploma level by the time they reach secondary school.
What are the advantages of IIIP?
Music Intelligence
Research indicates that musical training helps improve the development of the left side of the brain physically and enhances one's spatial-temporal reasoning skills, leading to improved math performance, memory span and mental development. It also helps boost self-confidence, imaginative thinking, creative problem solving and respect for others.
High Quality Tuition
IIIP is designed to provide superior tuition to YCIS students. This includes careful selection of instructors, personalised records of students' progress and integrated advice from in-school music teachers.
Wide Range of Instruments
A range of both Western and Chinese instruments are offered in the programme. This offers a great opportunity to explore a second instrument.
Western Instruments:
Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello, Guitar, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone, Drum Set, Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, Percussion, Vocal and more.
Chinese Instruments:
Guzheng, Erhu, Dizi, Yangqin, Pipa and more.
New Choices with Off-Peak Rate
IIIP provides high-quality tuition within school hours at an "off-peak" rate. Students take lessons at a relatively lower cost, and the difficulty in scheduling classes after school is eased.
Convenience
Lessons begin and finish within school hours. Parents and students enjoy a more efficient use of after-school hours for other activities.
Well-Organized Evaluation System
After each lesson IIIP students will be given a personalized student handbook with written comments and assignments by their instructors, A report card will be issued and a recital will be held every school year.
We hope that more students will have the opportunity to enjoy and benefit from the IIIP program, allowing them to receive a comprehensive musical education during their time at Yew Chung.
